HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - More details have been released about the apparent suicide of former country singer, Mindy McCready. The 37-year-old reportedly shot and killed herself Sunday afternoon at her home in Heber Springs.
"Even though I never met her, I know others who have and always said great things about her. She was sweet and loved Heber because of the situation that brought her here," said Bobby-Kay Odom, Heber Springs native.
Cleburne County Sheriff Marty Moss said neighbors first contacted 911 after hearing what sounded like two gunshots in the area. Dispatch received a second 911 call from a friend-of-a-friend who was concerned for McCready after she had left messages for a friend. The context or details of those messages are not known at the time.
Moss said there were three dogs at the home when the suicide happened. McCready killed one of them, which belonged to her late boyfriend David Wilson
, before killing herself. McCready's body was found on the same porch that Wilson's body was found one month ago. It was rumored
that Wilson also committed suicide, but Cleburne Co. investigators never officially determined his cause of death.
