BRINKLEY, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State Police say Interstate 40 is backed up in both directions due to crashes in the construction zone at the White River bridge.
A state police dispatcher in Forrest City says the westbound lane has reopened but traffic remained tied up Tuesday afternoon. Travel was blocked for about two hours and it was taking time for vehicles to get moving again.
The eastbound lane was still not moving as of about 5 p.m.
Police say the crashes involved tractor-trailers, which made clearing the wreckage more difficult. Injuries were reported in the westbound crashes.
Due to the bridge construction, travel narrows to one lane in each direction. The work is scheduled to continue until the end of the year.
