NEWPORT, Ark. (KTHV) -Newport Police have released the name of the suspect who killed a 1-year-old and seriously injured her mother after he opened fire into their bedroom.

Newport Police Chief Michael Scudder said Robert Friar, 35, is the man accused of killing Tacarri Danielle Briggs, 1, and injuring her mother, Delana Aguirre, 21. He said police have just obtained a warrant for capital murder.

Scudder said Friar and Aguirre had been involved in a relationship until it ended recently.

He added that Friar is not Tacarri's father and that Aguirre is recovering and doing fine in the hospital.

A police report indicated that Aguirre had received 3 to 4 gunshots to the torso while Taccarri received one, and police said the Tacarri was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after the shooting, which was reported around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

At least 5 shots were fired through the bedroom window, and Friar knew they were home at the time of the shooting, said Scudder.

Friar is in custody awaiting formal charges, and Scudder said he will face capital murder.
