POPLAR GROVE, Ark. (KTHV) - A burned body was found in the trunk of a car early Friday morning in Phillips County. Phillips County Sheriff Neal Byrd said the body was found between 12:30 and 12:45 a.m. off of Country Road 358 near Poplar Grove. The car was located about 260 feet off the road in a wooded area.
Investigators were alerted to the area when they received a call from someone in the area who heard what sounded like an explosion around 12:30 a.m. When the caller went outside, they saw flames in the woods. Information about the victim has not been released, but investigators are questioning a person of interest in the case.
The vehicle involved is believed to a Crown Victoria; detectives are working to find the owner of the vehicle.
The Arkansas State Police is assisting the Phillips County Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
