BIRZEIT, West Bank (AP) - Dozens of Palestinian students blocked the car of a British diplomat, some even jumping on the hood, to prevent his speech at a West Bank university.
The consul general, Sir Vincent Fean, was to speak at the Palestinian university of Birzeit on Tuesday but following the incident, the speech was cancelled.
As the diplomat arrived in the town of Birzeit and stepped out of the vehicle, several students swarmed around him, blocking his passage. Palestinian security guards pushed him back into the car, which then left. Fean appeared unharmed.
The British consulate in Jerusalem was not immediately available for comment.
Activist Saed Qasrawi says the Palestinian students had intended to organize a peaceful protest against British policy toward Palestinians, but their rally quickly turned into the incident with the diplomat.
