LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- City officials, business leaders and city and fire department personnel gathered on Tuesday at the Convention Center to honor Little Rock's finest officers and firefighters.
Now in its 21st year, the event highlighted the outstanding service of more than 100 individuals. Meritorious Service and Bravery medals are awarded during the program, as well as more than $5,000 in awards.
THV's Craig O'Neill was MC for the ceremony.
Matt Murski was named Officer of the Year, and Ryan Baker was named Firefighter of the Year.
For the LRPD, the Medal of Merit went to Capt. Mike Davis, and Cheree Carlton earned a commendation award. The Leadership Award went to Lt. Mary Cook, and the award for Civilian Employee of the Year went to Sandra Scott.
For the Little Rock Fire Department, Stuart Swearingen was named Recruit of the Year. Retiring Capt. James Garrison was recognized, while Humphrey Opande and Maggie Spooner earned Good Samaritan awards. Unit Citation went to Engine 7, B Shift. Capt. Jarrod Gray, Engineer Jonathan Walthall and Firefighter Charles Cochran all earned individual citations.
