HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - A man captured after a manhunt in Hot Springs is now facing a slew of new charges.
Cpl. McCrary Means says Derrick Estell was captured Thursday. He says Estell had apparently broken into an apartment near Columbia Hills Street and Central Avenue while the occupants weren't home and stayed there all afternoon.
Police say he broke in after allegedly stealing a car that afternoon and crashing it in the area.
Police were initially searching for him to serve two failure to appear warrants for shoplifting. Officer Courtney Kiser says Estell has warrants for his arrest in both the city and the county.
After the manhunt Thursday, Estell is being charged with:
- Leaving the scene of an injury accident
- Leaving the scene of a property damage accident
- Resisting arrest
- Criminal mischief
- Residential burglary
- Aggravated robbery
- Theft of property
- Felon in possession of a fire arm
- Fleeing
Estell was in Hot Springs District court today. The judge ordered he be held on $150,000 bond on the new charges, but refused to grant bond for his charge of violating his parole.
He is listed as a obsconder; he stopped reporting to his parole officer. He was put on parole in Feb. of 2012 for a 2010 residential burglary. He was to be on parole until 2022.
