Scaife wins Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Following a successful senior season, the accolades keep coming for Hall High School basketball star Tyler Scaife. Scaife has been named the Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year and will now contend for the national title.

The Hall High Lady Warriors won the Class 6A state championship, their first title in 16 years. Senior guard Tyler Scaife is to thank for much of that title run.

At 5'9", Scaife connected on 8-of-11 shots from the field, scoring 23 points, handing out five assists and grabbing seven rebounds in a 56-45 win over Parkview during the title game. She captured Class 6A state tournament MVP honors for her performance.

Scaife was also voted McDonald's and WBCA All-American this season. She averaged 23.7 points, 4.1 assists and 3.2 steals per game this season.

As one of the nation's top 10 recruits, Scaife was recruited by several top women's college basketball schools. Ultimately, she decided to sign with Rutgers where she play under the direction of head coach Vivian Stringer.

A four-time All-State selection, Scaife helped her Cy-Fair club squad to a Nike Junior Nationals championship as a rising junior in 2011. This past summer, Scaife participated in the USA Basketball Women's 18U National Team Trials.
While there's no guarantee contending athletes will win their own state at this point in the season, a number of elite performers are making a case for Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year consideration.
