UNDATED (CNN) -- The next wave of smartphones and tablets may be equpped with screens made from manufactured sapphires.
A sapphire smartphone screen won't break when you drop it and and it would be virtually scratch-proof.
Apple currently uses manufactured sapphire to protect the camera lens on its iPhone 5.
The only catch could be price.
A sapphire display for a smartphone would cost about $30.
