LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Officials broke ground Saturday on a memorial to honor those who have died to keep us safe.

The Arkansas Fallen Firefighters' Memorial will sit at the State Capitol. THV 11 News is a sponsor, and Tom Brannon served as emcee at the ceremony.

The 50' x 70' memorial will include a fountain, statue, a memorial wall and an amphitheater. The statue, a bronze depiction of four firefighters, cost about $750,000.

Hundreds showed up for the groundbreaking. This memorial has been in the works for nearly two decades.
