LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - For the 25th consecutive year, thousands of people are expected to come together for one day of communal worship at the 25th Annual Community Easter Sunrise Service. The service will be held on Sunday, March 31 at 7 a.m. at the Riverfest Amphitheatre, 400 President Clinton Avenue, Little Rock. The service is organized by Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church (PHUMC) and has been in the same location since March 26, 1989, created by longtime PHUMC member, Swann Kohler, who will be recognized for her contributions and continued support.
2013 participants will include: Gov. Mike Beebe; Donna Terrell, Fox TV News Anchor; Sharon Bale, former Miss Arkansas; and Anthony Lucas, former Razorback football great. Music will be offered by the combined choirs of PHUMC, Philander Smith College, and North Little Rock High School. The 2013 co-chairs are Dawne Vandiver and Shannon Aston.
The 25th Annual sunrise offering will go to support the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Cord Blood Bank of Arkansas (CBBA) which provides life-saving bone marrow transplants. Additionally, CBBA puts Arkansas on the forefront of medical development through research that will one day provide new treatments for a variety of degenerative illnesses.
Attendees are encouraged to dress casual and bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.
