LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Senate has given final legislative approval to two bills to tighten the state's laws on tattoos and piercings.

The Senate passed both bills on Thursday.

One bill would prohibit body artists from performing sub-dermal implants - which involve inserting objects beneath the skin. The bill also originally included a ban on scarification - the etching the skin to produce a decorative scar. But after complaints from the tattoo industry and other lawmakers it was amended to give the Health Department discretion to regulate that practice.

The other bill prohibits body art procedures on minors under 16 years old except for ear piercings. It also limits piercings on those younger than 18.

The state currently has no age limit on body art if parental consent is given.
