RUSSELVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - The victim who died in an accident at the Arkansas Nuclear One plant in Russellville Sunday has been identified.

Pope County Coroner Leonard Krout said the victim is 24-year-old Wade Walters. Krout said five other workers were also injured in the accident; ambulances took three of them to an area hospital while the other two were transported to the hospital via a private vehicle.

"I tried to lay down last night, that's what I thought about this morning is that an employee lost their life. That's the biggest impact on me, we had several employees that were sent to the hospital, one remains in the hospital," says Nuclear One Site Vice President, Jeremy Browning.

Still dealing with the pain of losing an employee, Browning recalls the project that went wrong.

"Probably about a hundred people were involved in the actual activity," says Browning.

The task early Sunday morning was to replace a generator stator.

"The component we were moving was approximately 600 tons," says Browning.

An accident occurred during transport and the piece of equipment fell, killing Walters and injuring five others.

"We are still performing an investigation, gathering facts and do not have any additional information as to the cause," says Browning.

Browning says Entergy executives came to the plant Monday morning and sent their deepest condolences to all the families involved.

"We have established grief counseling on site for all employees regardless of who they work for, that service is being provided because we recognize the impact," says Browning.

Entergy, which operates the plant, released a statement on the incident Sunday and said the plant is closed for the time being. The plant's website states that it provides about 30 percent of Arkansas' energy.
