BRYANT, Ark. (KTHV) - A suspect is dead and a Bryant police officer is hurt after an officer involved shooting late Tuesday night.
Arkansas State Police says Bryant police responded to a burglar alarm at the Fred's Store at 3395 Hwy 5 at 11 p.m. April 2. The first officer who arrived at the store, Officer Scott Johnson, found someone inside a fenced area along the west side of the building.
When a second officer arrived at the store, gunfire exchanged between the suspect and Officer Johnson.
Officer Johnson was taken to a Little Rock hospital where he was treated and released.
State police say the suspect was fatally wounded and pronounced dead at Saline Memorial Hospital.
Bryant police say the suspect is Thomas Ray "Tommy" O'Dell, 41.
O'Dell was from Mattoon, Illinois where he was wanted for first degree murder and aggravated robbery. Bryant police also say there are reports that Odell had stolen two vehicles, one in Springfield, Missouri and another in Mansfield, Missouri. One of those vehicle thefts was at gunpoint.
State police is investigating this shooting and will prepare a case for the Saline County prosecuting attorney to determine if deadly force was lawfully used.
The name of the officer involved has not been released yet.
