TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iranian officials say more than 30 people are dead and hundreds more have been injured in an earthquake in a sparsely-populated area of southern Iran.

Authorities say it didn't damage a nuclear plant in the region.

The report said the quake struck about 60 miles southwest of the town that is the home of Iran's first nuclear power plant, built with Russian help.

According to the governor of the area hardest-hit by the quake, water and electricity were cut to many residents.

Another official tells state TV that rescue teams have been deployed to the area.

Iran has announced three days of mourning.

The quake was felt across the Gulf in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, where workers were evacuated from high-rise buildings as a precaution.
