SAN FRANCISCO, CA (CBS/KPIX) -- San Francisco Creole caterer Daniel Knight and Woodrow Conerly are whipping up a batch of soup. But it's not just any kind of soup.

This soup is a traditional New Orleans street food of mysterious origins and purported magical powers.

But now one secret's solved: scientists analyzed the soup, and found it really helps with hangovers.

The spicy noodle soup is typically made with a salty beef and soy broth, noodles, beef, chicken or shrimp, chopped scallions and a hardboiled egg.

From the eggs to the salty broth, each and every ingredient helps to fight the toxic effects of alcohol on the body.
