ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The No. 14 University of Arkansas men's golf team played a practice round at Seaside Golf Course on St. Simons Island, Ga., on Thursday morning in preparation for the 2013 Southeastern Conference Championship which begins on Friday, April 19, and runs through Sunday, April 21.
The Razorbacks took to the links at 8:15 a.m. and played through a pair of pop up rain storms on Thursday as they got their first look at the conditions of the course. The quintet of senior Austin Cook, juniors Sebastian Cappelen and Joe Doramus, sophomore Thomas Sorensen and freshman Taylor Moore played the 18-hole course in just under five hours, taking time to chip onto and putt on the greens at each hole.
The Razorbacks are making their 22nd appearance at the SEC Championships and 13th at St. Simons Island. The Seaside course, which is being used for the fourth straight year, is 6,898-yard, par 70 course that runs along the eastern shore of Georgia. One of the most difficult fields that Arkansas has faced this year, the Razorbacks are one of nine top 25 teams at the event. The 2013 Championship also has the addition of the SEC's new members Missouri and Texas A&M who are playing in the event for the first time.
Last season, Arkansas finished fifth at the SEC championship as Alabama took the team title. Sorensen, then a freshman, led the way for the Razorbacks as he tied for 15th overall with a score of three-over par. Cook and former Razorback Ethan Tracy each tied for 23rd.
Arkansas tees it up on Friday at 8:20 a.m. with players from No. 15 LSU and No. 19 Auburn. To follow all the action at the championship, fans can watch hole-by-hole scores at Golfstat.com. One can also follow the Razorback men's golf twitter feed @RazorbackMGolf for updates.
