Video: Toad Suck Daze Festival will go on in spite of weather

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - It looks like it's going to be a wet and chilly weekend during Conway's Toad Suck Daze Festival.

Just around 3 p.m. Thursday, the rain came in and it's been soggy ever since on the festival grounds at Conway, but there's some good news to come along with the gloomy weather. As of our 6 p.m. newscast, the Toad Suck Daze Festival will go on-rain or shine!

Mary Margaret Satterfield, director of events for Conway's Chamber of Commerce said the festival has been pretty popular and continues to grow. In fact, the city is expecting 160,000 people to come this weekend.

"if it rains one day, sometimes you will find the next day will have an even larger crowd than the day before because they didn't get to come out that first day, or if it's calling for rain on the last day, the day before will be packed," explained Satterfield.

While going on with the festival is the plan for now, the Chamber of Commerce will alert people if plans change or the forecast gets more grim. The chamber will send the word out on any changes through their iPhone app, android app, website, Facebook page, Twitter page, and through local media to make sure everyone is informed.

One more thing that Satterfield mentioned is that they are prohibiting pets this year because of the large crowds they're expecting.

The first toad races are set up for 5:30 p.m. Friday in the Toad Dome.
