ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (KTHV) -- The first Matt Turner Outstanding Junior in Mass Communication Award was presented Thursday night at Ouachita Baptist University.

The first recipient of the Matt Turner Award was McKenzie Cranford of Irving, Texas. She has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and hopes to one day intern at THV 11.

Matt Turner died last October in a car accident. He had graduated from Ouachita in 2003 with a degree in Mass Communications. His broadcasting career began on local radio and with OBU's cable television station before anchoring at KNWA in northwest Arkansas and finally at THV 11.

Members of Matt's family, including his wife Julee, said they were honored to represent Matt while the award was presented.

"Ouachita Baptist University is very special to me and Matt and his brother Andy," said Julee. "His mom, Lisa, worked here. For us to get to be here, to make an appearance here in honor of Matt is very, very special. And, we're just very proud of the junior that received this award."
