FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sophomore Kimmy Beasley was named second team All-SEC on Tuesday. The league's coaches voted on the awards.
Beasley, a Foreman, Ark. native, went 6-4 in conference play this season and tallied wins over No. 2 Tennessee, No. 8 Missouri and No. 19 Kentucky. She is the first Arkansas pitcher to earn All-SEC honors since 2001 when Heather Schlictman made second team All-SEC.
Last weekend, Beasley set a career-high with 15 strikeouts in game one of the Auburn series. She threw a complete game shutout to pick up her ninth win of the season. The sophomore followed the game one performance with seven strikeouts in five innings in game three. She has allowed one run in her last 19 innings pitched.
Beasley has tallied an incredible 90 strikeouts, to only 29 walks, in conference play this season. The 90 strikeouts include 12 against No. 13 LSU and No. 8 Missouri on April 6 and 13, respectively. Her strikeout total ranks fourth in conference play. She also threw a no-hitter in non-conference play at Savannah State on March 20.
The No. 22 Arkansas softball team begins postseason play this weekend in the SEC Tournament. Beasley is likely to start against No. 11 Missouri at 3 p.m. CT on Thursday.
