RANDOLPH CO., Ark. (KTHV) - An Arkansas family says they will never forget what happened this weekend.
Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson says a body was found near a boat dock at Davidsonville State Park, a popular fishing spot along the Black River.
Hershel Meeks says it was supposed to be a fun outing with his family Saturday at the Black River.
"We took the family and went to the river found a beach. Most of them covered up so we found one beach that had a little bit of sand on it and we had a little bit of fun," says Meeks.
But the day took a turn for the worse when he and his family were headed back to shore.
"Clouds moved in, we started back down the river and I noticed something on the bank that didn't look right."
Almost certain of what he saw, Meeks says he didn't want his family on board when he went to check out what was caught in a tree.
"I waited till they were downstream until I turned around and went back to check it out," says Meeks. "Sure enough it was what I thought it was so I called the law."
Authorities arrived and pulled the body of a young female from the river.
Back in March, 14-year-old Sidney Randall disappeared from her home in nearby Walnut Ridge.
The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department says the body appeared to have been underwater for a long time.
Authorities say they do not have a positive identification on the body, but have notified Sidney Randall's family as a courtesy.
The body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock and officials say they should know something by Tuesday.
