Age Progression by NCMEC, Morgan Nick, Aged to 18
CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Nearly 20 years after the disappearance of Morgan Nick, her mother still relentlessly holds on for her return. Now a donation could bring more attention to the case. Four million cars and even more sets of eyes will see Morgan Nick's face over the next year after Clear Channel Outdoor donated two billboards.
"Through it all we're resolute that we're going to keep fighting until we get the lead that brings her home," said Colleen Nick, Morgan's mother.
One billboard stands just past I-540 heading East on I-40, and the other can be seen heading West on I-40 near the Oklahoma line.
"Someone may find the courage to come forward with the information that they have. That maybe this year we'll find Morgan and bring her home," said Nick.
The mother has spent the better part of two decades searching for her missing daughter. Authorities believe a man abducted 6-year-old Morgan Nick on June 9, 1995 at a baseball field in Alma. Many leads have dissolved over time, but Alma Police believe someone could still know valuable information.
"The tools that are out there to solve it, like the billboards, and the message boards, and the Amber alerts, and here in Arkansas it's the Nick alert. We didn't have those back then when Morgan was taken. So, a lot of things have happened, but the awareness is what keeps the leads coming in," said Police Chief Russell White.
Clear Channel officials said the billboards will stay up for a year. No matter the pain of the roller coaster investigation, a mother's love never quits.
"I still remember the day that Morgan was born. I remember the very first time that I held her and how she just swept over my soul. That was the day that I committed to fight for her, and so I still fight for her today. I've not given up just because she's not here. I believe that someday I will look her in the eye--that she will be home, and I will be able to say to her 'I always knew that I would find you,'" said Nick.
The case is active, according to Chief White. He told THV 11 they have a strong lead on one suspect but can't move forward with a charge without more evidence. Chief White said there are two investigators who work full-time trying to piece together clues.
