MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (KTHV) - A Baxter County Jail inmate has been charged with an additional offense.

The Baxter County Sheriff said Elyssa K. Turner, 28, Mountain Home, gave birth to a child Jan. 20 at the Baxter Regional Medical Center. He said the infant suffered from withdrawals and was treated for approximately 30 days in the hospital.

Sheriff John Montgomery said that Turner had tested positive for opiates and benzodiazepines, and she admitted to taking prescription pills during her pregnancy without being prescribed such.

Turner was previously incarcerated on failure to appear and probation/parolee violations, but she has now been charged with introduction of controlled substance into the body of another, which is a class B felony.

She is being held in lieu of $25,000 and is charged as a habitual offender.
