SALINE CO., Ark. (KTHV) - The Saline County prosecutor is stepping aside in the case against the county sheriff.
Ken Casady told THV 11 News he made a motion requesting a special prosecutor because he is friends with the sheriff. He said he wanted to avoid the appearance of impropriety.
"While we would have handled the case firmly but fairly, this situation is one where a special prosecutor is proper," said Casady.
Judge Mike Robinson granted the request. The special prosecutor, though, has not been appointed yet.
Saline County Sheriff Bruce Pennington was arrested for public intoxication last week.
Next court date for Pennington is Aug. 5.
