NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A North Little Rock police officer dedicates their time to the public, but one officer is taking that a step further.
Officer Tanya Ward opened the daycare Lil Heroes in an effort to help parents with hectic schedules. The daycare is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and caters to law enforcement, emergency personnel, and the fire department. However, they accept all children.
When most day care providers have the day off, there is one facility open, taking care of children 24 hours, seven days a week. "It's been a God send really for us," says Sgt. Terry Kuykendall.
Sgt. Kuykendall works for the North Little Rock Police Department. He says, "When we're working you know we want to make sure our kids are taken care of. Obviously they're the most precious things you can have." A second family is what many of them have become.
Tanya Ward says, "First responder family being police, fire, paramedics, doctors, nurses, military, they don't have family members here." Which is why Ward decided to open Lil' Heroes. As an officer on the police force, Ward knows how difficult it is to be dedicated to your job and manage a family. Even though she has been there, and done that, she wanted things to be a little easier for other families.
All to make a home away from home, to accommodate and protect the children of those who protect us. Ward adds, "That's how I start my day everyday is, can I find one thing I can do to make someone else's day better? And that's my goal every day."
