McCRORY, Ark. (KTHV) -- On Tuesday, seven cyclists were injured when they were hit by a car on Highway 17 outside of McCrory. On Thursday, Tom and Liz Costley with Overland Summer Camps confirmed in a message on the camp's website that one of the cyclists has died.
The Overland Summer Camps group which consisted of two group leaders and 11 students had started their six week cross-country trip in Charleston, South Carolina and were headed west to California when they were struck by a vehicle.
According to a message on overlandsummers.com, 18-year-old Merrit Levitan of Milton, Massachusettes died as a result to the injuries sustained in the crash.
Message to the Overland community from Tom & Liz Costley:
This morning we received confirmation that Merritt Levitan of Milton, Massachusetts, died as a result of injuries sustained in a terrible incident that occurred outside of McCrory, Arkansas, while participating in an Overland bicycle touring program. Liz and I, and the entire Overland community, are heartsick by this tragic loss. We extend our deepest condolences to Merritt's family, friends and loved ones.

The Associated Press reports two people remain hospitalized, but stable.
Prosecutor John Bell said there wasn't any evidence that the driver had been drinking alcohol at the time of the accident. It's unknown at this time if charges will be filed.
