JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Jonesboro is dealing with an overpopulation of stray cats and dogs.
"Last year we picked up 254 animals in a two month period, this year in May and June alone we've picked up 371 dogs," said Sgt. Larry Rogers with Jonesboro Animal Control.
This past weekend alone, the Northeast Arkansans for Animals rescued nearly 100 cats from one Jonesboro neighborhood.
It's against state law to leave behind, abandon, or dump any animal in Arkansas; the offense is considered a misdemeanor and punishable by up to a year in jail.
