BATESVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Two men are dead after a shooting in Batesville.
The Independence County Sheriff's Office got the call around 8 p.m. July 6 about a shooting at a home on the 200 block of Dry Run Circle.
Deputies found Omar Scales, 25, inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, and they found John L. Weeams, 47, inside the home with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Both victims were taken to the White River Medical Center where Weeams was pronounced dead. Scales died a short time later.
Deputies were told the suspect left the scene in a white Ford with rims and tinted windows. During their investigation, deputies developed Akeem Lewis, 23 of Cotton Plant, as a suspect.
Lewis is currently awaiting formal charges from the prosecuting attorney.
