WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Washington Monument got the Eiffel Tower treatment Monday night.
The scaffolding-covered monument was lit up by nearly 500 lights. Hundreds of people came out to see it.
And it will continue to be lit up at dusk each night until repair work is completed. The monument has been covered in scaffolding since being damaged by a powerful earthquake in 2011.
It's expected to reopen to the public in spring 2014.
