CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - There was a light at the end of the tunnel for recently laid off Hewlett-Packard employees.
The company held a job fair consisting of more than 70 companies looking to hire. The companies said the talent and skills of the HP employees were exactly what they're looking for.
TJ Johnston, assistant VP of the Conway Chamber of Commerce, said some companies had 2 or 3 openings while others had up to 100.
"Our first and best response was to put this on, and we feel, hopefully this can be a quick transition for the folks that were affected by this, so they can get back to their lives as normal," Johnston explained.
Johnston said it's their responsibility to find jobs for those affected by the layoffs. They will continue to provide job opportunities as long as they need to.
HP eliminated around 500 call center employees last Monday.
The job fair isn't the only good news; a new job report just came down Friday. The data showed a slight decline in the percentage of unemployed in Little Rock. Although slight, it's still progress.
