LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - It's time for another edition of Winners & Losers. Let's begin!
Great Britain is a winner. It has been estimated that the Duchess of Cambridge and her baby have meant over $380 million to the British economy. Not bad for a baby that, all day today, was a royal pain.
The crowned head of Arkansas is a winner, too. El Dorado's Amy Crain is the new Miss Arkansas. She will now be the voice and face of a statewide anti-bullying campaign.
From princesses and queens and princes to a former King, cotton ruled Arkansas for 150 years, but today it's our first loser. Farmers only planted half as much acreage as they planted last year.
The city of Detroit is our second loser. They had to declare bankruptcy last week. Hey, $11.5 billion in debt will do that to you.
Another victim of the economy and loser is Baptist Health. I hate to give them the loser tag, but last week they cut 170 employees. Tighter government regulations, rising costs, and bad debts forced the cuts, which do not include nurses.
One more loser: A bird has put the buzz in buzzard. In Miller County, a buzzard fell on a power line and fell into the sunroof of a car driven by Jerry Cunningham. The bird also knocked out power to 12,000 customers.
We are in need of a winner. I have two of them with one story: Zurga and Audrea of Maumelle Parks and Rec. Their quick thinking saved the life of a 5-year-old who was under water way too long.
