LONDON, UK (CBS) -- The world is waiting for the first glimpse of the newest member of the British royal family. Prince William and his wife Kate spent their first night as parents in St. Mary's Hospital in London.
Britain honored the birth of the future king with two separate gun salutes and bells rang at Westminster Abbey.
The celebrations are still in full swing throughout Great Britain the day after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their first child, an eight pound six ounce baby boy. At Buckingham Palace, during the daily changing of the guard, the queen's guard played the song congratulations.
Kate Middleton's parents arrived this afternoon to visit their grandson. Prince William's aunt, the Countess of Wessex expressed the royal family's excitement. She says, "I feel ridiculously happy actually, so excited for them both, it's a wonderful event."
Prince William stayed at the hospital with his wife Kate for their first night as parents. He thanked the staff at St. Mary's Hospital for the tremendous care the three of them received. While the royals stayed inside, many well wishers camped outside waiting to get a glimpse of Will, Kate and the new heir.
Rachel Carter-Eagleton says, "I brought my kids here today because hopefully we'll be here in time for when she comes out. Fingers crossed."
Now that we know the baby is a boy, the burning question is what his name will be. So far the royal family is keeping mum.
While Prince Charles is keeping quiet, bookmakers have some clear favorites. Rory Scott with PaddyPower says, "George is the current favorite. Two to one favorite, heavily backed, a lot of money on there. the regal George there obviously a lot of cred. James five to two just behind the name of Katherine's brother obviously."
No matter what the name will be, the little prince will one day be called his majesty.
The new baby is third in line to the throne after Princes Charles and William.
