A.J. Cody, convicted of second degree murder.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- A judge has denied a man's request for a new trial for murder.
A jury sentenced AJ Cody to 20 years in prison in June. Cody admitted to shooting and killing 65-year-old Lee Britton after his 5-year-old daughter told him Britton had touched her inappropriately. A jury convicted him of second-degree murder, but his friends and family say 20 years in prison is not the punishment he deserved.
He had recently won an appeal, but was denied bond while he awaited court.
Cody's family has secured 2,000 signatures online and 2,000 on paper in protest. Those signatures will be submitted to Governor Mike Beebe for consideration for a pardon.
