MURFREESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Prosecutors have filed capital murder charges against an Arkansas man accusing of killing three people, including his 9-year-old niece.
Timothy Hill is charged in the July 13 deaths of his estranged wife, Dana Hill; his mother-in-law, Julie Hartsfield; and his niece, Autumn Hartsfield.
An affidavit says Dana Hill came to the home to pick up their two children. The Texarkana Gazette reports that authorities believe Timothy Hill shot Dana Hill while she hiding behind a locked door.
The affidavit says police believe Timothy Hill also opened fire into the car where Hartsfield and Autumn were waiting. Authorities say Timothy Hill told investigators he did not know the girl was in the car.
Prosecutors and defense attorneys declined to comment, citing a gag order.
