SHERWOOD, Ark. (KTHV) - The four-year-old, disabled dachshund who has been waiting for $5,000 in donations to get surgery on his back legs is now scheduled for that surgery on Monday, Aug. 12.
Abandoned near the Sherwood Animal Shelter and lacking mobility of his hind legs, Mr. Wiggles , aka Scooter, has gained a lot of attention over the past week.
Sherwood Animal Shelter workers said that Mr. Wiggles has received a wheelchair that was donated by an out-of-state manufacturer. This comes just in time for Mr. Wiggles 'meet-and-greet,' which takes place Saturday, Aug. 10 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the Sherwood Animal Services, located at 6500 N Hills Boulevard.
While Mr. Wiggles awaits surgery, Sherwood Animal Shelter Helpers (SASH) President Julann Carney says that it will "help keep his legs from having any abrasions or any potential damage."
Currently SASH has raised over $3,300 towards their $5,000 goal. However, a donor has said he will provide the financial shortcoming in order for Wiggles to get the surgery. Any excess donations for Mr. Wiggles will be used for any post-surgery care he needs or for helping other animals with special needs.
To help raise funds, an account at Eagle Bank has been set up for Mr. Wiggles as well as a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/#!/scooterakamrwiggles.
