    Little Rock soldier Sgt. Jamar A. Hicks killed while fighting in Afghanistan

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Department of Defense (DOD) has announced that a Little Rock soldier was killed while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

    According to DOD, Sgt. Jamar A. Hicks, 22, of Little Rock, died Aug. 11 of wounds when enemy forces attacked with indirect fire. He was a part of the 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.

    Hicks was evacuated to Forward Operating Base Salerno in Khost, Afghanistan, and later died.

    According to the office of Gov. Mike Beebe, flags will fly at half-staff until sundown on Thursday to honor Sgt. Hicks.

    Also killed in the attack were Staff Sgt. Octavio Herrera, 26, of Caldwell, Idaho, and Spc. Keith E. Grace Jr., 26, of Baytown, Texas. Herrera and Grace died in Paktia Province, Afghanistan.
