RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Russellville police have recovered an Illinois teen who met a Russellville man online and ran away from home to meet him.
Russellville police were contacted by the Cicero, Illinois Police Dept.
Aug. 20 about a runaway teen that could be in the city.
Authorities searched extensively in an area where the 15-year-old's phone was pinging, and she was found in a home on the 200 block of S. Hastings Avenue.
Also inside the home was 25-year-old Jairo Hernandez. He was taken into custody and placed on felony hold for fourth degree sexual assault. His bond was set at $150,000.
Russellville police say the teen from the Chicago suburb met Hernandez on Facebook. Police say Hernandez drove to Cicero, picked her up not far from her home, and brought her back to Arkansas Aug. 17.
Russellville Police Spokesman Drew Latch says he hopes this story is a reminder to parents to watch their kids activity online.
"This is a good chance for parents to realize that it's an eye-opener, that this is something that can really hit close to home and it is out there," Officer Latch said.
Latch also told us that the 15-year-old girl was put into custody with the Department of Human Services after authorities found her.
