SALINE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV ) - THV 11 is getting its first glimpse of who wants to be next sheriff for Saline County as the search is on for a temporary replacement with the upcoming resignation of current Sheriff Bruce Pennington.
The latest list has 11 people on it; some of them are currently working at the sheriff's office. If anyone else wants to be considered, they have until noon on Friday to turn in their resume.
The days on the job are numbered for Saline County Sheriff Bruce Pennington. He's resigning October 1 following fall-out from a public intoxication arrest at Denton's Trotline in late June.
THV 11 knows so far that 11 people want to carry out Pennington's term through the end of next year. They include some candidates who already work for the sheriff's office, like Chief Deputy Bill Field and Jail Administrator Lt. Don Birdsong.
Detective Corporal Gary Robertson is also listed along with Terrell Burks, the director of the Saline County Office of Emergency Management.
Some of the outsiders include Benton attorney Parker Jones III and James Ward, a former candidate for Saline County Sheriff who lost to Pennington in the May 2012 primary (http://on.kthv.com/180nMya).
The Saline County quorum court will meet Monday night in closed session to start reviewing resumes. The goal is make a final appointment by their September 24 meeting.
Whoever is chosen cannot run for sheriff in the next race. County Attorney Jonathan Greer said that is against state law.
The remaining candidates that we know of are Jeffery Morris, Scott Wallace, Dennis Sisco, Robert Cullison and Dale Donham.
