Warrior Golf Opens Season in Tunica

    TUNICA, Miss. (HENDRIX) - The Hendrix College men's golf team opened the 2013-14 season by competing in the Rhodes College Men's Fall Classic at Tunica National on Sunday and Monday. The Warriors, under new head coach Jay Lester, shot a 328-320=648, placing 20th.

    Junior Cory Ziegler paced Hendrix by shooting a pair of 75s for a two-round score of 150 and tying for 26th place. Freshman Kevin Austrian shot a 79-82=161, tying for 82nd and junior John Weirich tied for 94th with an 88-77=165.

    Senior Travis Weeks shot an 86-88=174, and freshman Greg Lanese had an 88-86=174, both tying for 99th.

    Rhodes, the host, won the event with a score of 587. They were followed by Wittenberg (590), UT Tyler (591), Transylvania (592), Berry (592), Oglethorpe (596), Southwestern (Texas) (599), Huntingdon (602), DePauw (604), Centre (606), Mary Hardin-Baylor (606), Texas Lutheran (606), Millsaps (608), Birmingham-Southern (610), UT Dallas (612), Sewanee (623), Maryville (Tenn.) (631), Mississippi College (641), St. Olaf (646) and Hendrix.

    The Warriors will be back in action on Oct. 15-16 at the Louisiana College Fall Tournament in Alexandria, La.
