Liz Massey is an Emmy award winning journalist. She joined THV 11 in 2000 and currently anchors the evening weekday newscasts.
Liz is a Jacksonville High School Red Devil and a Red Wolf. In 1998, she graduated from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Liz produces some of the station's most popular series. "Everyone has a Story" profiles the lives of everyday Arkansans who do extraordinary things. Another series, "Fishin' with Liz," reels in THV viewers. One of her favorite stories features the time she had the opportunity to surprise a young boy with his first fishing trip. Another memorable fish tale is when Liz traveled to Mexico to bass fish with an Arkansas couple who owns a lodge there. Liz also scored big with, "Send us your Best Shot." In this segment, she shares viewers' wildlife and game camera pictures.
Some of Liz's most memorable career moments include anchoring the historic live coverage of the 50th anniversary of the 1957 Central High Crisis, reporting live from Oklahoma City when bomber Timothy McVeigh was executed, and witnessing history at the grand opening of the Clinton Presidential Library where she interviewed celebrities, including Chris Tucker from the movie "Rush Hour," and Markie Post from "Night Court." She's also snagged several interviews with President Bill Clinton.
One experience she'll never forget was when she reported for a week from Fort Sill, Oklahoma when the first wave of Arkansas soldiers with the 39th Infantry Brigade returned home from Iraq after a year away from their families.
Throughout her THV career, Liz has been recognized repeatedly with local, state and regional awards. She won an Emmy in 2012 for her story "Secret Mission." Liz helped coordinate a surprise reunion between a soldier mom deployed to Iraq and her three children. She's also been voted two years in a row "Best TV News Anchor" by Arkansas Democrat-Gazette readers.
Liz volunteers with a number of community organizations and charities. One close to her heart is the THV Diaper Drive. In July 2012, the drive collected more than 126,000 diapers, a record, for the Arkansas Rice Depot to help families in need. In 2011, she also raised more than $16,000 for the American Diabetes Association.
Liz and her husband, Keith, welcomed their son, Cruz, in September of 2010.
