JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State University officials say the U.S. Department of Army has now officially informed the university that its 77-year-old Army Reserve Officer Training Corp program will be ended.
ASU said in a news release Wednesday that it was notified by the department that the ROTC program will be discontinued at the end of the 2014-15 academic year.
ASU Chancellor Tim Hudson says the university will "do everything possible to reverse" the decision.
The ASU ROTC program currently has 122 participants and is one of 13 programs scheduled for closure nationwide.
