LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Senior citizens came together Monday for the 10th annual Residents' Rights Rally at the State Capitol.
"Most important to our organization is to educate the public, educate the public about the rights of nursing home patients," said Martha Deaver, president of Arkansas Advocates for Nursing Home Residents (AANHR). "Also to let them know that there is an organization out there that can tell them what these rights are, guide them in the right direction, help them find the best facility in their area that has the most updated, best survey data."
Deaver said they also tackle any issues like health concerns or mistreatment in nursing facilities across the state.
Volunteers and the State Ombudsman Program were honored for their contribution to nursing homes. The rally also comes in celebration of October as the National Long-Term Care Residents Rights Month.
Arkansas State Ombudsman Kathie Gately was the key note speaker.
