FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Univ. of Ark.) - After the No. 8 Razorbacks claimed the 25th Annual Chile Pepper Festival, junior Grace Heymsfield has been named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Runner of the Week and freshman Sandy Raines has been named the Co-SEC Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday.
Heymsfield, an Elkins, Ark., native was the top collegiate finisher among 115 participants with a time of 16:55.8, which ranks as the second-best women's 5K time in the SEC so far this season. She led No. 8 Arkansas to taking eight of the top 10 spots en route to the team title at the 25th Annual Chile Pepper Festival. She was also an honorable mention selection for USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Raines, a native of Kingwood, Texas, finished sixth at the 25th Annual Chile Pepper Festival to round out Arkansas' scoring lineup of 16 points, just one shy of the team's fourth perfect score this season. She clocked a 5k time of 17:15.7, which is the second-best freshman time in the SEC so far this season. This is the first honor of her young career, and she now has scored in all four meets for the Razorbacks. Raines shares this week's Freshman of the week with Karis Jochen of Texas A&M.
The Razorbacks now prepare for the Wisconsin adidas Invitational which will be held on Oct. 19, at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisco. The women's 6K is slated for a noon start.
