FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Univ. of Ark.) - After claiming the 25th Annual Chile Pepper Festival collegiate and team title, the Arkansas women's cross country team moved up a spot to No. 8 in the USTFCCCA national rankings, announced on Tuesday.
The Razorbacks took home the team title at the 25th Annual Chile Pepper Festival with a score of 16 points, just one point shy of their fourth perfect score of the season. This score put Arkansas 72 points ahead of the second place finisher Loyola Marymount and 82 ahead of Texas Tech, who took third. After the meet, Grace Heymsfield was named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Runner of the Week and freshman Sandy Raines was named the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Arkansas is the featured as the top-ranked team in the SEC with Vanderbilt coming into the rankings as the No. 25 team. Also, the Razorbacks have stood atop the South Central Region all season.
The Razorbacks now prepare for the Wisconsin adidas Invitational which will be held on Oct. 19 at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisco. The meet will feature 18 of the top 30 teams featured in today's USTFCCCA national rankings, including seven of the top 10. The women's 6K is slated for a noon start.
