LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Senator Mark Pryor (D-AR) and Sen. John Boozman (R-AR) spoke out Tuesday in response to the government shutdown, the debt ceiling, and the thousands of furloughs.

"There's no question that this is going to be a terribly bad occurrence for our nation's economy and certainly for Arkansas' economy, so this is a time when responsible people need to come together, put any kind of partisan differences aside, and work through this," said Pryor. "I must say that I'm afraid that this is going to have serious consequences for the state of Arkansas and for the country."

Boozman issued a statement to THV11 that was written as follows:

"As this shutdown drags on, it spills into the debt ceiling discussion. These are two major issues with very serious impacts if left unresolved. The shutdown has real implications on our seniors, veterans and others and there is the potential of a significant downturn in the markets which could result in a dramatic hit to the savings and pensions of hardworking Arkansans if we default on our financial obligations. The good news is everyone is working hard in good faith to try to reach agreement. I remain optimistic that we can come to an agreement without sacrificing our principles. I am committed to finding a resolution." - U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR)
