SOUTHBEND, Ark. (KTHV) - A suspect has been arrested in an arson case after a small Lonoke County church caught fire.

Around 7 a.m. Wednesday, a driver passing by the Southbend United Methodist Church in Lonoke County saw smoke coming out of the window and called police.

"The first units on the scene arrived and found a fair amount of smoke, and we attacked the fire from the inside. It took a little while to get knocked down," explained Lt. Hubert Chapman with the Southbend Fire Department.

A suspect was arrested, but the name has not yet been released.

Lt. Chapman said the extent of damage is still being determined.
