LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A mom of two had her purse stolen in broad daylight. She was dropping her youngest child off at Kidz University Daycare in Conway around 7:30 a.m.
"Her son had a blanket and she just threw it over her purse. But she didn't lock her doors," said LaTresha Woodruff, Conway Police Department Public Information Officer.
She was inside for only minutes when a vehicle pulled up, opened the car door, and took her purse.
Rebecca Balentine, one of the daycare's teachers, said she saw a maroon SUV pull into the parking lot.
"It had temporary tags and then it pulled underneath the awning where all the other cars are parked," she said.
It was gone within 15 seconds. Along with the purse, the suspect took the victim's driver's license, credit cards, checkbook, and her loaded handgun. The suspect then cashed a check at the victim's bank in Conway.
"It appears that this person also cashed checks in Little Rock, Benton, Bryant and Hot Springs as well," Woodruff said.
In the last three weeks, the suspect has written $18,000 worth of checks in the victim's name.
Later that week, another woman's credit cards were stolen from her car at Pinnacle Mountain. It isn't clear if the suspect is responsible. However, the suspect has been writing checks from the victim's checkbook and cashing them in the second victim's name.
Woodruff said police just don't know who this suspect is but they have released pictures from local banks.
"We need to get this person identified and arrested," Woodruff said.
The victim asked that we not use her name but had advice for other moms.
"I just want to be want of those people that yells 'don't leave your purse," she said.
The Conway Police Department is asking for help locating the suspect. You can call or text the Conway Police Department at 501-450-6120.
