WHITE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) -- The prosecuting attorney in White County announced today that charges will not be filed in the case where a sheriff's deputy hit and killed a bicyclist.
Harding University graduate student Courtney Book was killed by a White County Sheriff's deputy Oct. 17 while riding her bicycle at 9 p.m. at night in Searcy.
Chris Raff, prosecuting attorney in White County, said today that, "The physical evidence and the statements of an independent witness who was driving directly behind the Sheriff's deputy confirm the bicyclist was wearing dark clothing, was not visible, and the bicycle was without reflectors at night."
He goes on to say the accident was unavoidable and no criminal charges are warranted.
