NEW YORK (USA TODAY) - Instagram before your Corn Flakes? Vine and eggs?
Researcher Statista recently surveyed 2,000 consumers, asking about their morning digital routines. Checking apps was by far the most common choice, before e-mail, weather, news and traffic.
So it got us to wondering - what apps are folks opening up in the morning? And what are they doing with them?
"I open my eyes at 6:30, say a prayer, check who texted or called, and open Instagram and Vine," says Emily Angeles of San Antonio. "I realize I'm running 15 minutes late, and go brush my teeth and wash my face."
She prefers the visual stimulation of the apps. "I like it better because it's not so much words" like in an e-mail but "just pictures of what's going on."
Becca Cordes of Chattanooga, Tenn., says she hops on Instagram hoping to start each morning with positive reinforcements. "I want to see if I got any new likes," she says.
One morning she got 200 likes, for a photo from a Starbucks.
Scott Rome from Chicago also looks at Instagram just to see if "anyone did anything crazy the night before."
Eddie Bassias from Toronto checks his apps - What's App, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - before he closes his eyes, and again when they open up. "I go to all the social media apps."
