NEW HAVEN, Conn. (CNN) - A Connecticut rabbi and his wife said they had no choice but to do the right thing after finding thousands of dollars in a desk they bought off Craigslist.
A local rabbi and his wife found a huge pile of cash after buying this desk on Craigslist.
When the couple brought the desk home, it wouldn't fit through the door. "The desk didn't fit into this office by a fraction of an inch," said Rabbi Noah Muroff.
The couple had to pull the desk apart, including the file cabinets. "Behind the drawers there was this plastic bag, like a shopping bag I'm talking about. In the bag, I can already see through the bag there's it looks like a 100 dollar bill. We open it up and it's full of cash. We count it up and there's $98,000 cash sitting in the bag," said Muroff.
The couple could not believe their eyes. They then picked up the phone and called the original owner. "Right away my wife and I sort of looked at each other and said we can't keep this money."
The original owner said that she stuffed her inheritance in the desk, forgetting where she put the money.
The good samaritans returned the cash to the rightful owner.
